How accurate are these tide times?

These are tide predictions, worked out from the movement of the moon and sun

So they are calculated years in advance rather than measured on the day. Rhyl does not have its own tide gauge, so we use the same tide model that we check every month against real Environment Agency gauges at Holyhead, Llandudno and Barmouth, where it matches to within about 15 cm. Expect high and low water times here to be accurate to roughly 10 to 15 minutes.

    Not for navigation

These times are a guide for planning a day out, a coastal walk or a photo. They are not for navigation or anything where an exact tide height matters, and weather can push the real sea level above or below any prediction. For navigation, use official Admiralty sources.

    About Rhyl tides

Rhyl faces Liverpool Bay with a long, gently sloping beach that dries a long way out at low water. Spring tidal range here is around 7 metres โ€” one of the largest on the UK coast โ€” because Liverpool Bay funnels the tide.

    Rhyl tides โ€” FAQ

How fast does the tide come in at Rhyl?

Very fast on spring tides. Because the beach is so flat, the water can advance the width of a football pitch in minutes. Always check the next high tide time before walking out.
