1. Why Some Listings Appear Before Being Claimed
North Wales Local is designed to help residents discover local businesses across the six principal areas of North Wales.
To create a useful directory at launch, we compile listings using publicly available business information. This allows customers to find local services while giving businesses the opportunity to claim and manage their profile.
2. Where Listing Information Comes From
Unclaimed listings are created using information that is publicly accessible, including:
- Public business directories
- Public-facing business websites
- Public social media pages
- Publicly available contact details
We do not access private databases, restricted systems, or confidential records.
The information displayed typically includes:
- Business name
- Trade category
- Operating area
- Public phone number and/or email
- Public website link
No private customer data is collected or displayed.
3. Why We Display Public Business Information
We rely on legitimate interests under UK GDPR to:
- Provide a searchable regional business directory
- Help residents discover local services
- Enable businesses to claim and enhance their listing
- Improve local market visibility
We believe this is proportionate because:
- The information is already publicly available
- It relates to commercial activity
- It supports consumer access to services
- Businesses can request removal at any time
4. Unclaimed Listings
Unclaimed listings are clearly labelled. They:
- Display only publicly sourced information
- Do not imply endorsement
- Do not confirm verification
- May not reflect the most recent business updates
We encourage business owners to claim their listing to ensure accuracy.
5. Claiming or Removing a Listing
Business owners may:
- Claim their listing and manage it
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request removal of an unclaimed listing
Removal requests are actioned within 7 working days once a connection to the business is verified.
Inclusion in the directory does not create a contractual right to permanent listing.
6. Listing Maintenance
To maintain directory quality, we may:
- Remove listings that remain unclaimed for extended periods
- Remove businesses that appear to have ceased trading
- Remove listings with persistently invalid contact details
- Update categories or formatting for consistency
These decisions are made to preserve directory integrity.
