How accurate are these tide times?
These are tide predictions, worked out from the movement of the moon and sun
So they are calculated years in advance rather than measured on the day. Holyhead has its own Environment Agency tide gauge, and every month we compare our predictions against it directly. The match stays over 98%. Times match to within about 10 minutes and heights to within about 15 cm.
Not for navigation
These times are a guide for planning a day out, a coastal walk or a photo. They are not for navigation or anything where an exact tide height matters, and weather can push the real sea level above or below any prediction. For navigation, use official Admiralty sources.

About Holyhead tides
Holyhead sits on the west coast of Holy Island facing the Irish Sea, with its own major port and marina. The tidal range here is around 5–6 metres on spring tides, less on neaps. There are two high waters and two low waters roughly every 24 hours, each about 6 hours 12 minutes apart. Holyhead is a Standard Port in the UK tide tables, so its predictions are among the most reliable on the Welsh coast.
Holyhead tides — FAQ

Around 5–6 metres on spring tides (near a new or full moon) and 2–3 metres on neap tides. The exact height for each tide is shown next to the time above.
Are Holyhead tide times in GMT or BST?
All tide times on this page are shown in UK local time — GMT in winter, BST in summer — so you don't have to convert them.
Can I use these predictions for boating or fishing?
The predictions are accurate under normal conditions but they don't account for wind, air pressure or storm surge. For anything safety-critical always use official Admiralty tide tables and a current forecast.
